Why Are Gas Prices So High?

Why are the gas prices so high today?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And why do the prices go up and down? Is it still because of the war? All great answers...I'm not sure who to pick so I have to put it into vote. Thanks everyone.
  1. I am not really sure...but maybe the gas prices may be high because the stock market might be crashing a bit.
  2. Because supposedly they're low on an additive. But because spring is comming and the weathers getting warmer too there might be an increased demand. On top of this oil companies really do rule the world no one can work or function w out fuel. The quarter that katrina struck gas companies reported record sales. From what I heard what happened in new orleans only effected the supply by 3% On top of this is the ethanol if you take in to account that you have to grow corn load it on to huge dump trucks ship it to a rail yard then ship it some where else than put it on a truck to ship it to a fermentation plant where it needs to be fermented at a controlled temp. than ship it off to be distilled into fuel ethanol really isn't the anwer. on top of that crowing corn for fuel makes all that corn taxable where as if it were grown as food it would be tax free. As far as the war is concerned we use verry little arab oil the national reserve all the oil out of alaska isn't even burned in america on account of its high sulfur content we ship it over to china who has no emmisions laws. We produce more oil out of Oklahoma than most arab contrys do we just use allot on account of our huge suv's and such on top of the way we drive. You know what you can do to save over a quarter or more per gallon of gas. The speed limit
  3. Because exxon decides to make a 40 billion profit in 2007. and because of the war. Gas has a limited supply as does most in the world so the less we have the more it will cost. Remember the U.S. has the biggest oil reserve in the world. But we are buying everyone else's oil first and since that is the case they can raise the prices and we will and have to continue to buy. Gas is a 1.75 cents cheaper in Mexico. :)
  4. The war directly and indirectly causes differences in the price of gas. Directly because of speculation in the commodities markets. Indirectly because we have to print money to pay for the war. A Nobel Prize-winning economist puts the cost of the war at over three trillion dollars. We had to print that money. That increase in the money supply lowered the value of the dollar. Lowering the value of a currency makes things cost more, like oil. Oil was below $30 a barrel around 2002, believe it or not.
  5. ah for real, it's 4 dollars here for diesel. what the heckkkk?
  6. Iraq
  7. Greed.
  8. BECAUSE WERE RUNNING OUT OF GAS EVEN PLACES LIKE IRAQ!!! MAKE LOVE NOT WAR MCDONALS MAKES PEOPLE FAT!
  9. why are gas prices so high today? where do you live ??? our prices have been high for over a year.. enough is enough, something needs to be done.
  10. Oil companies buy ahead of time so when the prices are up they pay them and it reflects on the fuel bills. The problem is that they buy in great bulk, so it takes time to sell it all off. About a few months is usually the time period to sell their stock. So when the price of oil is low and the gas pumps are high it's because we are buying the fuel that was paid for when the oil price was high. Simple economics. If we all stopped using our cars and trucks, and motor-homes, and motorbikes, and our boats, airplanes, and snowmobiles the prices would probably go down. But that isn't going to happen now is it?
  11. I thought it was because they wanted my arm and leg lol! I haven't the foggiest idea I just know I need it to get me where I need to go.
