Why Are Gas Prices So High?

How high do you think the gas prices will go before Americans start rebelling in some sort of way?

I think gas prices will go to $5.50 or more before people actually start doing something. <shadow> I drive a honda fit and heat my home with a corn stove. You sound like a pretentious prick.

2. We should have started to rebel at $2.50 a gallon....I guess people are okay with just giving away their hard earned money.
3. I think the gas is so high and will get higher so that the US government can solve the obesity problem. You won't be able to afford it so then you will have to walk or ride your bike around! :)
4. I think it will be a lot higher than that. We are a lazy country, too lazy to get organized and fight gas prices that's for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see gas prices hit $15/gal in about 10 or 20 years when the supply is drying up, and we still wouldn't do anything about it. Sure we'll complain but nothing will happen, other than ditching the SUVs, Suburbans, Hummers etc, for little wind up cars like in china. $5.50/gal is nothing. That's cheap compared to Europe NOW.

6. In a way, people are rebelling, and started back at $2.50. Drive offs starting to climb about the time the gas hit $2.50. Now, people are stealing gas by popping holes in peoples gas tanks. The gas prices started to climb after Katrina and Rita. Plus, I think there is someone, somewhere hyping it all up just to raise the prices.
7. I think people are already doing something. They're... uh... Actually, never mind. I know I am, because I drive a smallish car, and drive as little as possible. I'm 19, have a full-time job getting $13 an hour, and go to college. I work hard for my money, and I have always driven very little, just because its stupid to be on the road more than you have to be. Drivers here near Washington, DC are insane, which makes me reluctant to go on joy rides. People simply need to stop being stupid and buying big, useless SUVs and trucks that get horrible mileage. Until people start using their brains and begin living within their means, we'll continue paying exorbitant prices. Deal with it!

We also need to focus how we can RECALL elected officials bought off by Big Oil; it's quite easy to do and I don't think it'll be hard to get the signatures and votes needed. 11. America wont rebel. it would go into a depression. My guess is that if we stay in Iraq, Iran will jump in there itself. Iran is starting to harrass us and trying to get us blow something of theirs away so they have an excuse to fight us. If this happens, gas prices will go higher and war efforts would eat up more of our economy and America will fall into a dept greater than our dept to China.. America will never overthrow it's government, government is too strong despite the money situation.

All the problems with gas prices,food prices and natural disasters are all symptoms of sin in this country.I dont hear any cry about why we are allowing children in the womb to be butchered daily,but get into the average americans pocketbook and tell them gas prices are going up and food prices are going up,THEN you get their attention! 13. Not too much higher probably about $6.00 for 3 reasons 1, airlines lost 1 billion $ in gas last year, 2, cars aren't selling as well and, 3, Scientists are finding more ways like solar powered cars, charging cars, water powered , and wind powered.
14. i think people have started cutting down already. i know i have, im walking a lot more and i am not poor at all. its just im kinda fed up with exxon's and mobiles showing billions dollars of profit every quarter. if it gets to 5 i will sell my mercedes and just keep our 4 cylinder volvo. i will also buy a mountain bike. hey im getttin healthier maybe we can turn this into a good thing.
