Why Are Gas Prices So High?

Ok they probably will get up to $4.00 a gallon here in the U.S. However, this makes absolutely no sense to me. Exxon has made the most profit in the last 3 months than any other company is history. Which is billions of dollars. So I know they are making us pay way too much for gas. I know there is no shortage and that there is plenty of gas in Alaska that we aren't using and selling to other countries is what I've heard. On top of that there is so much oil in the middle east it's laughable. WHY ARE WE PAYING SO MUCH? I have no idea, but I do know that President Bush has been in the oil business at one time...maybe this has something to do with. I don't know. Is this all politics? No one seems to know why we are payin so much for gas. In Venezeula its .12 a gallon and its like .75 in Kuwait. Obviously they don't have to ship across the ocean, but there is no fkin shortage of gas. I use to think if people would quit driving SUVs and trucks that we could lower prices....well I was wrong. Don't give me this supply and demand BS either. We are building hundreds of ethanol plants all over the U.S. to help out with our gas guzzling society yet the gas prices still go up. Makes no fkin sense. The invasion of Iraq doesn't have a fkin thing to do with it, but that's just my opinion. Why would that raise gas prices....enlighten me!! I've heard several people say this and not one can explain themselves. I at least need one intelligent answer of why.... I've done some research and I've discovered and read numerous times that we have more oil in Alaska then all of the world....does anyone know why we aren't tapping into it? I don't and no one seems to know or even realize what we have that we aren't using. This is utterly ridiculous and we need to start asking more questions instead of bending over and taking what our government gives us. It takes $5 to bring one barrel of oil out of the ground in saudi arabia so why are we being raped?

1. They won't be getting lower. It doesn't matter how many people drive trucks and all that stuff. When you get right down to it, you can blame bush for all his crap he keeps pulling.
2. we are paying so much because of corrupt business. States have a share, and so does government. to fight, we must boycott gas, for at least one day. On May 15th, there is a movement NOT to buy gas on that day, That movement will take 3 billion out of thier pocket, and hit them where it hurts. Please Join the Event and Spread the Word. May 15th. No Gas. show them we still have a voice.

4. i dont know...let me see....profits (not revenues-profits) are at record levels for the gas companies ...so not all of those increases are purely expenses, no? did you also notice the prices really started to shoot after we invaded oil rich Iraq? (gee, if I have more control of the supply I can manipulate demand - and Venezuela makes and nationalizes its own gas-go talk with someone at a gas station otherwise)
5. Yes- because of the various fuel and emission laws enacted in various states! They have not built a new refinery in 20 plus years and I have noticed that there is always a "convenient" shutdown, fire, upgrades or whatever at the refineries in Calif. From what I can see - the oil companies will go down a few cents at the pump, the consumer will get used to that price - then a hike at the pumps - on and on and on. Just when we think that the price is cheap at the pump - WHAM! It will go up again. Oil companies have to add state and federal taxes to the price of a gallon of gas, supposedly for new roads to be built - however - here in calif NO REAL NEW INTERSTATE FREEWAYS have been built since Gov. Pat Brown in the 60's. Ooh - they built a few new ones and by the time they are up and going - they are already just as congested as before they started!!

7. Just to comment on Oh_ No _Su you a FRICKIN RETARD!! You people that say european countries pay more for gas than us is simply an uneducated idiot. Alot of the price in their gas is taxes. If you take their taxes away they pay the same as we do but they dont have the same taxes taken out of their checks like we do so their government has to get it someway and thats how. SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT MEATHEAD!!!! And unfortanetely to answer your question yes since they will since the market is looking for anything right now to drive prices up even if it is false and doesnt mean anything. But when you have a corrupt government turning away from a major crime to the american people nothing will be done. Our government needs a complete overhaul from the bottom up. Did anyone notice the trade gap???? WTF is our government doing besides taxing us to death to pay their 6 digit incomes? I say its time to outsource their jobs and cut their employment in the name of reorganizing and see how them bastards like it. What a bunch of useless monkeys we have in office huh. Also I agree with you. You could park every SUV on the road and gas will still go up. Ethenol BLAHAHAHAHA what a crock. It will not bring prices down since they will blame droughts on the shortage of corn for ehtenol or better yet jack prices up since the bees are dying and cant pollounate so WHAM up the prices go.
