- To ease the burden on the people.
- We shouldn't. We should tax gas and diesel until it costs what it does in Europe.
- why wouldn't we want to pay less?.. Even rich people don't want to pay $4 or $5 a gal... do you?.. So I ask you why should'NT we lower gas prices?!
- we should let the free market decide. This includes charging a fair value for lease rights. No subsidies/no surtax.
- Because if we don't it will certainly mean the demise of the middle class, and almost certain recession b/c consumers will be spending their disposable income on gas. I had to take a part time job just to pay for the gas to get to my full time job. In response to the person who said we should be like Europe...the only problem with this is that there Euro is worth a lot more than our dollar!
- I think that until people start changing their driving habits then gas isn't too expensive. Its all about supply and demand and there still is a demand for gas so the prices show it. Overall I think that gas is expensive, but until people change their habits then it must not be too much for the average US citizen.
- It's quite simple, by lowering gas prices it will lower the cost of products and make living more affordable. With gas prices being so expensive people aren't traveling as much anymore nor are they spending their money, so businesses are suffering tremendously not to mention the fact that they have to pay the gas prices for deliveries which takes away form their profits. Now, if gas prices were lowered it would allow business to profit more and people wouldn't be as stressed about traveling to work and making ends meet. Overall, it would help out our economy as well, because more money and shares will be distributed amongst the local businesses. Lower gas prices also allow people to travel the world and learn it's history and even simply go shopping or to the movies.
- Who is WE? Are YOU going to lower gas prices? Who died and made you supply and demand.
- The U.S. would be much better off with gas prices similar to what people pay in Europe. ($6.00 to $7.00 per gallon). Increasing the gas tax by about 20 cents each year until gas was selling for $6.00 to $7.00 would: - Give consumers a reasonable amount of time to purchase a more fuel efficient car, before feeling the full effect of the price hikes. (People who go from a 20 mpg car to a 40 mpg car would hardly notice the difference.) - Give car makers time to produce more fuel efficient cars. - Reduce gas consumption -- reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil. - Reduce the risk of global warming. - Reduce oil company profits because they would refine and sell less gasoline. - Provide tax money to help pay for the Iraq war, which many people believe had something to do with insuring a long term source of cheap oil for Americans. (Its not fair to push the entire cost of the war on to the next generation through deficit spending.) - Provide tax money to pay for better public transportation - (The U.S. is way behind Europe in the quality of its public transportation.). - Encourage city governments to allow more housing to be built near where the jobs are. - It would help the U.S. begin to get ready for a future when there is no more oil - while there is still some left. - Perhaps there is enough oil in the ground to last another 50 to 75 years. but eventually production is going to start declining and there will come a day when it will be gone. -- 50 or 75 or even 100 years is a very small amount of time in the history of civilization. - The sooner we start getting ready for the post oil age, the better off humanity will be. - Improve the image of America in the eyes of the World.
- I love history, and this subject has been debated to much already, we need some action.
