Why Are Gas Prices So High?

Why is Bush trying to fix the problems caused by the gas prices, (food prices, stimulating the economy).?

But he won't tap into the oil reserve. Also why are the oil companies making bigger profits then ever, and nobody is saying anything. We are a country based on freedom, and Democracy, however we are getting screwed by our non majority elected leader. I'm so glad I was out of the miltary before Bush took office. In my opinion Bush is one of the 5 worst Presidents in our history. I needed to say what was on my mind. I would love to here your opinions on this subject, good or bad! I love the responces I've gotten(more then I,ve ever had, however I've lived for just over 40 years, and lived during the gas crises of the 70's, however, I don't think this is a party problem, like some have said Bushvis looking out for his Corporate interests, once again this is my opinion. The only reference I use is my own life experience. One last thing, by reserves, I'm talking about what we already have in reserve, not tapping into our natural resouces. Although we have more oil in our ground than most of the rest of he world combined, think about it, fossal fuel is caused by the dinosaurs, and we have some of the biggest sites in the world. and Alaska is our biggest untapped resource(not just for oil). Face it we need to fix our economy that s based more on oil than anything else, or find better alternative fuels, I know I sound Eco, however, we rely too much on other countries, and yet we have the greatest resources right here.

  1. He's trying to fix food prices? Wow, I didn't know he could do that.
  2. its the environmentalists and democrats that are preventing the drilling of US reserves. o and get over it. he was elected in 2000 and certainly was in 2004. also its the democratic congress that has to pass legislation. complain about Pelosi and Reid
  3. Simple basics, Republicans believe in low taxes and the peoples money fixing things, Dems believe in high taxes and the gov doing every thing
  4. He's not doing much. He's following Herbert Hoover's non-action policy, the "capitalist solution" (the do-nothing policy). It won't be long before you see people start setting up Bushvilles.
  5. He converted to Lib
  6. I hate to say this but i think America was expecting so much more from him. He being who he was....who daddy was....it just kinda gave up false hope that he would succeed as a "Good" President. I am just disappointed after these 8 yrs.
  7. Bush represents everything wrong with this country. From his sub-literate rhetorical gaffes, to his weird Christianity, from his retard aggressiveness ("Bring it on!") to his absolute lack of perspective, from his piss-poor work ethic to his blatent cronyism, from his immoral promotion of torture and premptive war to his utter lack of competence in the face of national disasters (both natural and man-made)... I wouldn't piss on George W. Bush if he were on fire...
  8. Tapping into our oil reserves won't solve the problem and is a last ditch solution. At least Bush is making an efford to address the problem. Thats more than I see the do-nothing Democrats doing. Didn't Pelosi say things would get better when they controlled congress? I don't consider the current situation an improvement.
  9. I agree. Bush has spent trillions of dollars on Iraq and many of our young men have died because he decided to put us in this war. Well, that country has gotten what they asked for help. They don't have the money to pay us back but they have oil and they should offer it to the United States, it would help this country out of the mess we are now in. I hope those of you who voted for Bush are satisfied.
  10. Problem is Bush owns stakes in many of these oil companies, he would never tap the oil reserves because that would cause gas prices to drop and if they drop Bush and his oil buddies wont make as much money. Bush is a very deceiving person, I was shocked to see that people voted him into a second term to be honest!
  11. He needs to put a good face on the criminal aquitals and political body-count on the horizon!!!
  12. I know you are upset and speaking from emotion, but please follow me here. He cannot use the reserves. We are at war and we are fighting in the middle east. 60% of our imported oil comes from OPEC. It is consievable we might make them mad before this is all over, and they stop letting us buy their oil. Also Shell only had a profit margin or 7%, what made their profit so high was we bought so much gas and other products from them. In this whole oil issue, I blame both sides of the aisle. The should have stopped blocking R&D of alternate fuel sourses years ago.
  13. Well, one of the things he wanted to do, all the way back to his 2000 campaign, was tap the reserves. But then some environmental lobbyists shut him down because of the wildlife, and concerns over it ruining habitat. Sure, we could tap it to offset our foreign dependency, but it would eventually run out. I think that at this point they (Congress) are keeping that reserve protected for emergency situations. As for the oil co profits - I don't know how the heads of those companies can look themselves in a mirror. 10 Billion in profits for one company in one quarter? A "little" excessive if you ask me.
