Why Are Gas Prices So High?

How come gas prices are so expensive in Alberta compared to the States?

Gas prices here in Alberta have reached $1.30/litre and are still expected to rise. That's roughly $4.90 a gallon down south. We have so many resources such as the tar sands which are being heavily extracted causing a huge boom in our economy. How come we are not seeing these effects in the prices?

  1. they don't get it from the same places that we do
  2. here in california it's about $3.65
  3. because oil dont have to go half way across the world like ours do!! We are a lazy country, thats why nothing is made here~
  4. so a certain few people can get rich.
  5. You have much higher gas taxes and higher transportation cost. http://www.fin.gc.ca/toce/2005/gas_tax-e.html
  6. One of the main reasons has to do with taxation. There are lots of bills being paid by paying at the gas station. Some of them include health, education, etc. that all Canadian have access to. In the US gas may be cheaper but everyone has to pay for health, education, etc out of their own pocket.
