Which is the best programmer to tune my 2004 F-150 for better gas mileage? The gas mileage on my mother's 2004 F-150 (Lariat) is worst than having an old school Chevelle with an exhaust leak doing 120 mph on a 6 hour strecth of road. So I wanted to get an Hypertech or some other company's programmer to improve the gas mileage. The truck has a 5.4 Triton V-8 in it.

Most programmers are made to increase the power of your engine, with more power comes more fuel consumption. an most programmers will require the use of premium fuel to avoid detonation becasue the timing is advanced. this will just cost you more money in the long run. Your best bet is to do a basic tune up, clean air filter and ensure the tire inflation is spot on at all times.
