Why Are Gas Prices So High?

What kind of car would be best for someone looking for durability and good gas mileage?

My wife needs a car that gets good gas mileage and is durable and safe. We would like to keep the cost low (under $10,000) and she can only drive an automatic. Any suggestions for make and model? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

2. Japanese cars are the best in durability but they only sell in central america or south america, but any brand you buy which has less than 2.0cc and 4 cilinder is very economic regarding Gas. The good thing about buying a car in USA is the cars are cheap & you can change cars every 2 years. Toyota,Nissan,Honda,Mazda,Mitsubishi,Isuzu, these are the best brand for quality Japanese cars you can buy atleast in my country, besides they are the ones they steal more in central america ^(Mentioned Brands)^.
3. I have a '95 Honda Civic and it gets good gas mileage. Also, it still runs great and the body's in good shape even though its 11 years old.
