Why Are Gas Prices So High?

what year crown vic p71 gets the best gas mileage?

I'm looking into buying a crown vic police incerceptor, between 2000 and 2003. But I've heard people say that from 2003 and up the gas mileage stinks, I've looked every where for answers. But I do know the 2003 have the 3.27 gears which is higher gears so why worse gas mileage? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
