2. probably the escape hybrid... i think new one start at 26 k but if you find one a couple years old. it'd be under 20 i think they get like 34 mpg

It's probably the Suzuki SX4. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008car1tablef.jsp?id=24732 $15,270, rated 21/28 on the new-for-08 mpg ratings (07 and earlier was more generous, so don't compare unless you are sure both vehicles are on the same rating scale). (The Subaru Impreza, at $17k, is 20/27.)
4. well........if you are looking for a sedan, there is a suzuki that has awd and i know the subaru impreza is one of the cheapest awd cars out there. but if you look around, there are tons of cars that have awd options, so do a little research.
5. There is only one car company that sells NEW AWD cars for under $20,000. That is Subaru with the Subaru Impreza. It gets about 29mpg highway. With older AWD cars under $20,000, the subaru would still have the best gas mileage because the other AWD cars would be luxury cars, which are heavy. Audi Quattro, BMW X, Mercedes 4-Matic, Volkswagen 4Motion.
